Elementary and middle school students study language arts, literature, Bible, Social Studies, Math, Science, Computer Training, Tailoring, Arts, Agriculture, Choir, Physical Education, Vocabulary, Drama, and an elective in sports.
High school students are required to take four years of English and Math, three years Science, Social Studies, Health, R.O.T.C, Religious Education, Computer Training, Composition and Speech, one year of International Relations and Field Placement program for the work force. Their electives include: Choir, Fine Arts, Catering, Baking, Tailoring, Crocheting, Floral designs and Embroidery.
All of our students are encouraged and prepared to attend college through the pre-college curriculum. We offer accelerated learning programs for over aged
students delayed because of the many years of civil conflict in Liberia, and also encourage and offer those anxious to enter the workforce, vocational training in marketable skills.
Worship
Students attend chapel services each evening for an hour and on Sunday mornings and evenings for two hours. Services generally include choruses, prayer, special music by the choir and a message prepared by student ministers or Pastor Taylor. It is our sincere prayer that all of our students encounter the Lord Jesus Christ and get to know Him as their personal Savior while here at J.C.I.S and throughout the rest of lives.
Student Work Program
The student work program is an important tradition at J.C.I.S. Students work fourteen hours a week at designated job. These jobs help young people develop a sense of responsibility and provide them with valuable work experience. Students learn to cook, bake, clean, plant crops and care for farm animals. They work in teams of eight per crew to learn team building and cooperation skills. Many students are recognized for their leadership abilities and promoted to supervisory positions on campus. J.C.I.S also offer work study programs for local students with the most financial needs. We also offer collegiate prep courses required by most U.S. post education institutions such as the TOEFL,GMAT,MAT and more. We believe in doing so we will be preparing our students for a higher standard of excellence which would allow them to broaden their horizon.
